Jaggery is a concentrated product of cane & dates or palm juice. It is commonly referred to as unrefined sugar which is prepared without separation of molasses and crystals and is majorly produced in India & Africa. It is used to make several Indian desserts. Major ingredient being Sucrose (50%), Invert Sugars (20%) and moisture (20%), the other ingredients include insoluble matter such as woodash, proteins and bagasse fibers.
Apart from keeping the body warm, Jaggery is to fight the cold and flu in winter season. According to expert nutritionists, one can have six spoons of any form of sugar so 10 grams of Jaggery should be enough for daily consumption.
According to one source, 100 grams (half a cup) of Jaggery contains

Jaggery may also contain small amounts of Vitamin B and minerals including Calcium, Zinc, Phosphorous and Copper.
